THERAPY

Therapy: Welcome

WHAT DO YOU OFFER?

Individual psychological therapy for adults and children

Dr Josephine McInerney is able to provide psychological assessment and treatment for a range of difficulties. These include anxiety disorders such as social anxiety, health anxiety, phobias, panic attacks and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), depressive disorders and low mood, sleep problems, stress and low self-esteem, anger management, trauma and loss. If you are unsure whether or not McInerney Psychology can help with your specific difficulty, get in touch to arrange a free, informal telephone consultation. There is no obligation to book an assessment and if there is a more suitable service that would meet your needs, you will be signposted in the right direction.

WHAT TO EXPECT?

Telephone consultation

The first step in your journey is to get in touch and book an informal telephone consultation. This is a brief conversation that will allow you to summarise your reason for seeking help and what you would like to gain from therapy. This stage can often feel like a big step so it is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions that you have and to talk through any worries about starting therapy. If McInerney Psychology is appropriate for your needs then I will arrange an initial assessment in person at our therapy room in The Kingsmoor Clinic (Kingston Bagpuize, Oxfordshire) or online via a video link.

Initial assessment

Your initial appointment is an opportunity to get to know you and to conduct a full clinical assessment. During this session, you will be asked questions about your past, what brings you to therapy and what you would like to be different moving forward. This will allow us to formulate an understanding of your difficulties and to create a treatment plan. If your child or young person is attending for an assessment, this will typically involve spending part of the session with you and your child together and part with your child on their own.

Assessment reports can also be written if required. These will summarise details of the assessment, including historical factors, current difficulties, a psychological formulation of the presenting problems and a treatment plan.

Treatment sessions

After completing the initial assessment, treatment sessions will be provided according to your specific needs. These will follow the treatment plan and will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. The amount of sessions you may need will depend on your current difficulties and the type of therapy being used. However, all sessions are time limited to ensure that treatment remains focused.
